Cristi Hâncu

Multidisciplinary creative and visual artist.

I work with images in different forms — from drawing, design and photography to filmmaking, animation and creative technologies. My practice brings together experience in visual communication with personal projects and artistic exploration.

From drawing to a multidisciplinary practice

I have been drawing since I was five. I spent a lot of time drawing at home, and my parents noticed and encouraged this inclination. When I was six, they enrolled me in a drawing school in Bucharest, which I attended for a year. That was also when I took part in my first exhibitions, including one held at the Village Museum.

Eight years at Nicolae Tonitza Fine Arts High School followed, from fifth through twelfth grade. I specialised in graphic design while also exploring modelling, painting, printmaking and observational drawing. I continued with four months of product design studies at Ion Mincu University and one year of graphic design at UNArte.

My professional background spans over 15 years in advertising and visual communication, including experience at Tribal Worldwide, Saatchi & Saatchi and McCann. Over time, my practice expanded into photography, filmmaking, motion design and creative technologies.

Today, in my own creative studio, I bring these disciplines together in communication projects and in my artistic work.

Art projects

STRADAL explores Bucharest’s architectural identity through photography and visual composition. Each artwork begins with a real street: its façades are photographed individually and reconstructed into a single imaginary structure. Fragments of the city become a portrait of the place they come from.

STRADAL is part of a broader practice, open to new collections, media and visual experiments.
